Must be a slow Friday afternoon, but the forum has been loading VERY slowly for me most of today. I tried a new gear by changing from the default "show topics from the last month" to "show topics from the last week" and it seems to have sped things up a bit. I'm posting this so others might try it and see if their perception is the same as mine.

I THINK this suggests the speed problem is likely more processor/memory related than bandwidth.

Not to me it doesn't....

It either says the problem is in the database (MS Access based), or in the rendering time it takes to build the pages.

My guess at this point is the render time, but I can confirm that.

I have noticed a slow down too.

Thanks for the tip though...

Jerry, I haven't noticed the slow down problem. I always use the Active Topics and it remembers the last time I logged on and only shows the threads with new posts. This has always been faster than following all the threads through the Main Discussion as it doesn't have to generate output for the entire database. Once a week I'll log into the Main Discussion just to be sure there was nothing I missed.

Thanks Don, I'll try that. This forum is structured a bit differently than those I'm familiar with.

One thing I like about the OLF site is how fast everything loads even with my slow dial-up connection. Congratulations to those who configured the site.D.L.Huskey38557.2451736111

The active topics thing is a good tip, that makes it so much faster to catch up.

Still I kind of wish the forum were configured to only show the topic titles, with a little notification symbol by the ones that have posts I haven't read yet. All IMHO of course.

There was lots of discussion about that. A lot of customization went into letting you see the treaded topics.

I guess in the end it came down to choices.
